WHAT IS THE BESPOKE HOUSE
The Bespoke House is a one-of-a-kind dwelling that meets the individual needs and tastes of the client and the particular demands of the site.
Designed within eight styles inspired by American, French, and Mediterranean architecture that are versatile enough to accomodate traditional or contemporary tastes, each house is unique. Clients are welcome to personalize their home by combining elements from several styles. Six size categories, starting at 3,500 square feet and peaking at 9,500, provide options for a wide variety of designs. The specific design vocabulary of each style- treatments of the facade, including porches, windows, and doors; interior elements ranging from room arrangements to authentic finishes; and appropriate building materials- offers inspiration and direction.
Presenting a welcome alternative to look-alike houses, the resulting dwellings are bespoke- combining the vision of the client with the skill of a master architect.
Ken Tate is known for his talent in designing beautiful, original, and liveable houses that are rooted in history, both ancient and modern. Projects for his international clientele are frequently featured in major design magazines, and in 2010 Architectural Digest selected him for its elite AD100 list of influential architects and designers.
Tate is celebrated for his comprehensive knowledge, imaginative designs, and attention to detail, but his greatest talent is the ability to create houses that are not only places in which to live, but also evocative ones in which to dream.
Tate Design Studio (TDS) brings this expertise, developed during Tate's 35 years of successful practice, to clients desiring a house designed by a master architect, but not the years of painstaking collaboration such projects require.
By providing a selection of styles and square footage categories, Tate Design Studio makes the months-long design process less complicated. Clients collaborate with Tate to develop the floor plan and individualize every aspect of the design including wall and floor treatments, architectural details, and choice of materials, inside and out. Assisted by the seasoned professionals working in his studio, Tate is involved throughout the entire design process, bringing his extensive understanding of architecture and inventive approach to design.
After initial consultations, each client receives hand-drawn pencil plans, exterior elevations, and a preliminary site plan. Over a period of months, detailed working drawings reflecting every element of the design are developed. These precise computer-generated documents direct the craftsmen building the house from start to finish. Product recommendations and a list of manufacturers ensure that elements such as steel-frame windows, cut-stone mantels, and lanterns are in keeping with the chosen style and standard of quality. Site inspections including construction quality review and updates are available on a fee-per-visit basis. In addition to working with Tate Design Studio, clients collaborate with their own team of contractors, interior designers, and landscape professionals.
The end result is a house unlike any other- individually designed, finely crafted, and uniquely satisfying.
